Growing Together: The Greens group becomes the Greens and Progressives

Posted on3 Jul 2025

The Greens political group in the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) has changed its name to “The Greens and Progressives in the CoR”, following a unanimous decision by its members at their meeting on 2 July. The new name reflects the broader political membership the group has built during this mandate.

The group was founded in 2020 as the Greens group in the CoR, bringing together members from Green parties to establish a distinct political presence within the institution. Now, the group is set to strengthen and expand its membership to ensure an enforced presence in the Committee of the Regions. It welcomes additional non-affiliated members who share its commitment to environmental sustainability, democratic values, social justice, ecological transition and progressive policies across Europe’s regions and cities.

Members agreed that “Green” remains a defining element of the group’s identity, and that green and progressive politics are a natural match. While coming from different progressive traditions, members share a common commitment to ambitious environmental protection and climate action, and to fostering inclusive communities where rights are protected, diversity is respected, and everyone can fully participate in democratic life.

A new logo is being developed to accompany the name and is expected by the October Plenary. Until then, the group will continue to use its current logo on its website and social media accounts, while adopting the new name wherever possible.
